Notes on Peter Jacobsen Family

Jacobsen Farm Before 1900 From the Traer Star-Clipper, November 1901.

Obituary of Peter Jacobsen
--------------------------

Peter Jacobsen died at the home of his son, Lorenz, south of Dysart, Monday, after an illness of one week. Old age was apparently the cause of his death. Deceased was born in Boerm, Schleswig, Germany, in 1819. He was united in marriage to Miss Anna Gottborg. Two children were born to this union, Hans and Lorenz, both of whom reside near Dysart. Twelve years ago the mother died and soon after the father came to America to spend his remaining days with his two sons. Mr. Jacobsen had always enjoyed good health, was a hard working man and of upright character.

The photograph above is about 100 years old. ( Peter Jacobsen, seated in the right foreground, died in 1901 ). It shows a view from the south of the Jacobsen farmhouse in Tama County, Iowa. The farm, which was acquired by the Jacobsen family before 1880, was still in the family in 1998. The farmhouse was destroyed by fire around 1995.
There are two men with the wagon team of horses on the left. One of them is presumed to be John Jacobsen, the oldest son of Lorenz and Anna. In the foreground, from left to right, are Lorenz, his daughter Minnie, old Peter (seated), Lorenz's son William, and his wife, Anna.
