Mrs. Dora Schmidt, whose age reflects a long and useful life, will celebrate her 95th birthday today at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William Babelis, 1019 Ninth street.
Mrs. Schmidt is mentally alert and her hobbies are reading and watching television. She is interested in the political and civic news of city, state and nation. She loves the outdoors and until recently has accompanied the Babelises on hunting and fishing trips. She took a trip to Yellowstone park last summer.
Mrs. Schmidt was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, Nov. 8, 1862, and with her parents arrived in Wheatland, Iowa, U.S.A., when she was three years old. She lived most of her married life in Crawford county, Iowa, and Denison, its county seat. She has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Babelis, since 1926.
Mrs. Schmidt was the mother of six children, three of whom are living. They are Mrs. Charles Reinke, San Bernardino, Calif.; Mrs. William Jacobsen, Waterloo, Iowa, and Mrs. Babelis. She has 20 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
A sister, Mrs. Charles Bolen, 85, lives in San Diego, Calif. Mrs. Schmidt will be honored at a family dinner tonight.

Mrs. Dora Schmidt Will Observe 100th Birthday Thursday

A Rock Springs woman was born Nov. 8, 1862, in Schleswig, Germany.
She is 100-year-old Mrs. Dora Schmidt, mother of Mrs. William Babelis of 1019 Ninth, with whom she makes her home. She is celebrating her birthday Thursday, November 8.
Mrs. Schmidt is the mother of two other daughters, Mrs. Lillie Jacobsen of Waterloo, Iowa, and Mrs. Ella Reinke of San Bernardino, Calif. Also, she has 24 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
A great-great-grandson, Donald Anderson, is a member of the football team of Iowa State University of Science and Tech, Ames, Iowa.
Other members of her family include a 90-year-old sister, Mrs. Mary Bollen, of San Diego. A half-brother, Hans Voss, lives in Austin, Minn., and a half-sister, Hattie Voss, who lives in McComb, Ill.
Came to U.S. in 1866

Mrs. Schmidt came with her parents to the United States in 1866. The family located in Clinton county, Iowa. Later they moved to western Iowa, where she was married to William Schmidt in 1884.
She came to Rock Springs in 1938 with Mr. and Mrs. Babelis.
Mrs. Schmidt is a member of the Lutheran church and Wednesday the Rev. Robert E. Tewes, pastor of Trinity Lutheran, administered her the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
Interested in Election

At the age of 100, Mrs. Schmidt was vitally interested in Tuesday's election. She watched the returns on television and read the returns in Wednesday's papers.
"I read your paper every day." Mrs. Schmidt told the Rocket-Miner representatives who took her picture and who interviewed her Wednesday.
Members of her family in the city for her birthday are Mrs. Schmidt's daughters, two grandsons, a granddaughter and a great-grandson, Howard and Delmer Reinke, Mrs. Ramona Jones and son, Ronnie, all of San Bernardino; a grandson-in-law, Rodney Doney of Deadwood, S.D., and a great-grandson, Robert Doney; also, grandsons-in-law and grand-daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Ted (Florence) Ronick and Mr. and Mrs. Andy (Ruth) Long, and their children, all of Rock Springs.
Mr. Schmidt died in 1934.

Dora Schmidt, 101-Year-Old Resident, Dies

Mrs. Dora Schmidt, 101, of 1019 Ninth Street, Rock Springs died at her home Sunday, at 8:20 a.m. She had been in ill health since Christmas.
Born Nov. 8, 1862, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, Mrs. Schmidt came to the United States with her parents in 1866. The family located in Clinton County, Iowa, and later moved to Western Iowa, where she was married to William Schmidt in 1884.
She came to Rock Springs in 1938 with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William Babelis, with whom she made her home.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. William B. (Minnie) Babelis of Rock Springs; Mrs. Ella Reinke, San Bernardino, Calif., and Mrs. Lillie Jacobsen, Waterloo, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Emma Voss, Genoa, Ill.; 24 grandchildren, which include Mrs. Ted (Florence) Ronick and Mrs. Roy (Ruth) Long, both of Rock Springs; 42 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Schmidt was preceded in death by her husband and three children, Emil, Hilda and Emma.
Funeral services will be conducted at Trinity Lutheran Church Tuesday at 2 p.m., the Rev. Robert E. Tewes officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call at the family home at 1019 Ninth Street, Tuesday until 11a.m. and after 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church until time of services.
