Arlington woman's birthday celebrated at Community party
ARLINGTON -- Mrs. Frances Day was honored with a birthday party at Arlington Community hall to celebrate her 80th birthday recently. The birthday of her granddaughter, Peggy Frances Poppe, Waverly, was also celebrated on that day since her birthday was also on Nov. 5.
A pot-luck dinner was served. For dessert a large birthday cake with appropriate decorations was served with ice cream. The birthday song was sung twice, once for Mrs. Day and once for her granddaughter. In the afternoon many musical numbers were performed by the members of each family present.

Frances M. Day...
ARLINGTON -- Saturday funeral services will be held for Frances M. Day. Mrs. Day, 86, of rural Arlington, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 5, at the Lutheran Home, Strawberry Point.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m., Dec. 8, at United Methodist Church, Arlington, with the Rev. Timothy Donovan officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Hazleton. Friends may call at the Kerns-Jamison Funeral Home, Arlington, after 2 p.m. today, Friday, and at the church Saturday from 1:30 p.m. to service time.
Survivors include one son, Leonard Day, Arlington; two daughters, Eleanor, Mrs. Glenn Burington, Fayette; and Dorothy Boehmke, Lone Tree; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur James Day, who died July 23, 1975; four sisters, Inez Day, Florence Clary, Ruth Eschen and Dorothy Metcalf.
She was born Nov. 5, 1904 in rural Stanley, the daughter of Grant S. and Mary Ada Manning Brownell.
Mrs. Day was a longtime rural Arlington area resident. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Arlington, and a charter member of the Southside Community Club, Arlington. She had been at the Lutheran Home the past month.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
